Golden Pillow

Pomegranate and Hibiscus Pillow-Gold

Additional Information
20" x 20" (3.15 lb)
THIS STUNNINGLY EMBELLISHED DECORATIVE PILLOW TAKES INSPIRATION FROM A VIVID CHINESE EXPORT PORCELAIN DISH design in Colonial Williamsburg's collections and is popularly called "tobacco leaf" by collectors, although this is somewhat of a misnomer. It was actually inspired by Asian foliage, as well as flowers and fruits such as pomegranates, hibiscus and passionflowers as depicted on Indian textiles, and was a fashionable import into the American South in the late 18th century?early global chic. Shards of similar designs have been excavated at the Governor's Palace site in Williamsburg, Virginia.
